The Cardiology Department in our hospital offers world-class heart treatment with accurate diagnosis and professional treatment. We have an experienced team of cardiologists specialized in treating Interventional Cardiology, and Non-Invasive Cardiology. At our hospital, we follow a set of international standard procedures to provide treatment for Pediatric Interventional Cardiology, Invasive Cardiology, Coronary Heart disease, Peripheral Artery Disease, and Aortic Disease.

Cardiology is a branch of medicine that deals with disorders of the heart and cardiovascular system. The disease includes coronary artery disease, heart disease, and failure. A Cardiologist specializes in treating heart disease.

There are four types of heart diseases:
  • Coronary heart disease- a disease in the heart’s major blood vessels that is caused due to the buildup of plaque. This causes coronary arteries to narrow, limiting the blood flow to the heart. Treatments include lifestyle changes, medication, angioplasty and surgery.
Self-care treatment includes weight loss, physical exercise, a low-fat diet, and quitting smoking. Medications are statin, anticoagulants, beta-blockers, and angina.
Some medical procedures are angioplasty, coronary stents and bypass surgery. One such primary angioplasty procedure was performed on a 95-year-old patient by Dr Mohammed Iesa, Consultant Cardiologist at Starcare Hospital, Calicut. Even though It was challenging, our Heart Doctor and his team performed the surgery successfully.
  • Stroke- High Blood Pressure and high cholesterol are leading causes of heart disease and stroke because they damage the lining of the arteries, making them more susceptible to plaque buildup and narrowing the arteries leading to the heart and brain. Angina or heart attack stroke are either caused by blockages with blood clots, an ischemic stroke, or by rupturing of a blood vessel, and bleeding is a haemorrhagic stroke.
  • Peripheral artery disease- is due to fatty deposits and calcium buildup in the walls of arteries. So in this condition, narrowed blood vessels reduce the blood flow to the limbs. Risk factors are Aging, diabetes, and smoking. Symptoms include leg pain, especially while walking.
  • Aortic disease is usually caused by high blood pressure or sudden injury. It’s a type of heart valve disease; the valve between the left ventricle and the main artery to the body, the aorta, doesn’t work properly. A diseased aorta valve can affect the blood flow to the rest of the heart and body. This condition may be present at birth or later in life due to other health conditions. Cardiology/Heart Treatment is suggested depending on the type of disease. Some may need surgery to repair the aorta valve. Symptoms include chest pain, an irregular heartbeat, fainting, fatigue, and dizziness. If there is a sudden chest pain, get immediate medical help. At our Starcare Hospital, our doctors are available to offer emergency cardiology care to patients admitted with serious conditions.
Three main types of cardiology

Invasive Cardiology Treatment involves minimally invasive surgical procedures using needles, fluids or catheters to treat heart problems like angioplasty and stenting.

Noninvasive cardiology- It focuses on detecting and treating heart disease using external tests rather than instruments inserted into the body. Examples X rays, CT scans, MRI, ECG and stress tests etc. Our doctors recommend the mentioned diagnostic tests to examine the heart health condition.

Interventional cardiology- It’s a speciality of cardiology that uses specialised catheter-based techniques to diagnose and treat coronary artery disease, vascular disease, structural heart disease and congenital heart disease. Interventional Cardiology Doctors uses various diagnostic tools and imaging techniques to measure cardiovascular function, such as blood pressure and blood flow in major arteries throughout the body and within the heart's different chambers.

Interventional cardiologists do not perform traditional open-heart surgery. At Starcare Hospital, our Interventional Cardiology Doctors are trained to place stents in clogged arteries to allow blood to flow properly and reduce the risk of stroke or heart attack. They use the newest technology, such as cardiac catheterisation, transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), mitral valve replacement, and repairs in Cardiology Treatment.

Our Cardiology Hospital in Calicut has a team of Interventional Cardiologist to treat the cardiovascular system, including the four chambers of the heart, heart valve, and coronary arteries. Pediatric Interventional Cardiology focuses primarily on congenital heart conditions, abnormalities in the heart's structure and coronary arteries present at birth.

Our Cardiologist treats a wide range of cardiac conditions like angina, angioplasty, Stent placement, aortic disease and dissection, cardiac CT angiography, cardiac imaging, cardiac ultrasound, diabetes and heart disease, Echocardiography, Gene therapy, heart failure, nuclear cardiology, Renovascular disease, and stem cell therapy for heart failure at our Heart Hospital in Calicut.

A team of Heart Doctors (Number one in Malabar) are senior Heart Specialists in Interventional cardiology treatment, highly talented and well-experienced in the Cardiology Department.
